Stansbury 1 Ms. Cosey English 104 01 September 2005 Globalization, a better future? Now days it seems like just about everything we buy is manufactured in a foreign country. In fact, it is estimated that about 95% of all clothing in the United States was made abroad in some other country. This is all a part of what we now refer to as globalization. In theory, globalization is supposed to connect us with the rest of the world we live in, but what do we really know about the places where are clothes are manufactured? Chances are you know little to nothing about the country where your pants or shoes are manufactured. We must ask ourselves what globalization has really accomplished and why America continues to push so hard to make it a universally accepted concept. In today’s society, the names “America” and the “United States” inspire much dislike and hatred in countries around the world. Many Americans do not understand why these foreigners so adamantly hate them; Americans tend to believe that through our policies such as globalization we are making the world a better place for everyone that lives in it. Many of our corporations, such as Wal-Mart, use globalization to take their business overseas. They not only build stores for foreign consumers, but they also provide jobs manufacturing clothes. Wal-Mart does this, however, not just to provide these people with jobs but because it is cheaper to
