Pat Ashurst HUM 2510/Fall Semester Dr. Scott Karakas A silent voice in “Nude Female Standing” Located in the city of Naples, Florida, a community with a population of only 22,000 persons, exists two outstanding cultural sites. They are the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts and standing side by side is the Naples Museum of Art. On Friday, October 19, 2007, I visited and toured the Museum of Art. As I toured the many galleries, my eyes caught a lonely full body, round sculpture in the collection of the Modern Mexican Masters. The person was hairless and my initial impressions were it was male. As I drew closer, I realized the sculpture was a female with her arms crossed covering her breasts. The sculpture was created by Armando Romero in 1988 and he called it “Nude Female Standing”. As I stood viewing the sculpture, its location and presentation, I had the strong belief the women was conflicted, desiring to avoid people because of an illness, possible related pain which has result in poor appearance yet longing for an open ear for
