Econ 3/26/2008 Karl Popper – Austrian Philosopher – Science will be an approach to falsify ideas General Process – Process for determining what’s false. 1. Classification a. To try to find a similarity that appears to be phenomenon, and group them by that  commonality. 2. Generalization a. Form conditional statements - If/Then Propositions b. Hypothesis about behavior c. Two Parts i. If part – implies a set of underlying assumptions about behavior ii. Then part – we will have some process to validate these conclusions, to  try to falsify the elements of the relationship. 3. Process of Validation or Falsification a. A process of testing hypothesis i. Coherence test – that the conclusions will follow logically with the  hypothesis we make 1. Mathematical studies and proof is an example of this – Theorem ii. Correspondence test – Empirical Test 1. Can we validate or falsify these over time, with real-world ideas 2. Solar Eclipse, Theorem of relativity proven by world around
