12/4/07 71.2 % of electricity production produces greenhouse gases Sequestration- take CO2 out of material, take out CO2 and bury it, put into liquid form, and goal is to pump back into ejection/oil wells. Power Potential- Coal Power Plant 500-1600 MW- can’t get anything smaller at this industrial scale Nuclear Power Plant- 1000-1400 MW- Natural gas -20% of electricity is done by coal fired power plants. Nuclear Energy- Heat is transferred to water, water turns to heat and is turned back to the scheme generator. Nuclear Produced Electricity is Green Power- nuclear energy is green and can produce energy. - cost inefficient in Germany to continue to use nuclear power. Three mile island is still radioactive- in the process of being dismantled. What do you do with the nuclear waste? Yucca Mountain, NV- put it in Borox Glass, stack in containers in concrete in the mountain, seal it completely. Nevada doesn’t want the nuclear waste. Will be filled in 2020. By then we will have more nuclear waste than Yucca mountain can hold.
