EOS 155 EXAM 1 Review Sheet Lectures 1 – 8 The following is intended to serve as a study guide ONLY. These are some of the questions that I might ask on the exam. I reserve the right to ask OTHER questions or reword questions. Know how to answer the following questions: Define inference, hypothesis, observation, fact, theory, model, fact Name the layers of the atmosphere What does temperature do within each atmospheric layer (and why?)? Which layer produces our weather? Which layer has the most ozone in it? What range on the electromagnetic spectrum makes up most solar radiation? How do the wave-lengths and energy of incoming solar radiation and outgoing earth radiation differ? Name the four different types of UV radiation. Which one is primarily absorbed by the thermosphere? Which range of light is most effectively absorbed by ozone? Explain what is meant by the atmospheric windows of solar and earth radiation? What percentage of the incoming radiation is reflected, absorbed by the atmosphere, and absorbed by the planet’s surface? Briefly explain how the greenhouse effect works
