Jeremiah 1-7, 31-24 I. Calling of the Prophet A. God calls Jeremiah to be a prophet and tell Israel to repent. Jeremiah hesitates at first, but concedes. (Jeremiah 1) II. Early Discourses A. Israel forsakes God 1. God is mad at Israel for forsaking him and turning to other gods. He compares them to a female donkey in heat. He says that because they have turned to idols, he should not help them even though they cry out for help. Because of Israel’s sin, God has withheld the rain. (Jeremiah 2-3:5) B. Unfaithful Israel 1. God calls out to Israel and asks them to return to him. He says he will welcome them back with open arms and not remember their unfaithfulness. He will bless them if they only return. (Jeremiah 3:6-4:4) C. Disaster from the North 1. God has given Israel over to invaders from the north because of their wickedness. He will not protect them from the disaster coming. (Jeremiah 4:5-31) D. Not one is Upright 1. No one in Israel is upright, and because of this God will destroy them. Those
