Running head: CRITIQUE OF QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE STUDIES 1Research Critique of Qualitative and Quantitative StudiesNameInstitutional AffiliationResearch Critique of Qualitative and Quantitative StudiesDepression, glycemic control and type 2 diabetes” by Papelbaum, M. et al. (2011)The quantitative research that I will focus on is “Depression, glycemic control andtype 2 diabetes” by Papelbaum, M. et al. (2011). The primary purpose of the study was determining the association between the major depression and glycemic control of type IIdiabetes mellitus (T2DM) (Papelbaum, 2011). The methods that were used in the researchare the psychiatric evaluation, and the clinical examination, which I agreed were the appropriate ones. The population and sample used was for seventy outpatients of type 2 diabetic who were aged between the age of 30 to 65 years. The assessment was done at
CRITIQUE OF QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE STUDIES 2State Institute of the Diabetes and the Endocrinology of the Rio de Janeiro. The clinical examination involved the anthropometric examinations, which were made together with the laboratory tests that assessed the metabolic control of diabetes. The glycemia was often measured using the colorimetric enzymatic method. The A1C levels were determined by using high-performance of liquid chromatography. All the subjects that were involved in the research were interviewed by the psychiatrist who were trained in using the Structured Clinical Interview for the DSM-IV patient edition (SCID-P). The instrument tested the past and current diagnosis of the depression.
