Unformatted text preview: Matt Phares & Donnie Kraus Dr. Larry Banta Lab #2: Introduction to Electrical Circuitry MAE 211-Fall 2008 Mechatronics Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV 26506 Abstract The main objectives of this lab are to introduce 4-band color code resistors, familiarize students with basic measurements of resistance, voltage, and current. Also students will be introduced to the rules for resistance, voltage, and current in a series and parallel. Solenoids will also be used in this lab; solenoids are an electromechanical switch, used to control the flow of a liquid. Using this fluid, we are able to change electromechanical energy into linear movement. When the right switching voltage is used, the solenoid will change the directed flow of the fluid inside the cylinder. In this lab, we have pneumatic cylinders; however, solenoids are also capable of controlling hydraulic cylinders. In this lab students will measure voltage, current, and resistance with a multi-meter I Table of Contents Abstract.............................................................................................................................
