Matt Phares English 102 August 26, 2008 Ethos, Pathos, and Logos In the article, “ written by Todd Gitlin ethos, pathos, and logos are present throughout the entire article. Ethos is the credibility of the author’s persona which is present in the beginning of the article. Pathos is used to appeal to the audience’s emotions and logos are appeals of logics such as fact and statistics. The author utilizes ethos, pathos and logos throughout his article to persuade the audience that America is a leader in the Global community. The main use of ethos in the article is at the beginning; “Professor of journalism and sociology at Columbia University. A leading and long time culture critic who writes for a variety of publications.” I believe this is a good example of extrinsic ethos because this quote is not part of the article but a prologue to inform the reader of the author’s credentials. It is a good example because it states his credentials, then it supports them
