Matt Greve 12/10/07 Reaction Paper ASL 152 Cochlear implants continue to be a highly contentious issue concerning the Deaf community. The film Sound and Fury illustrates both deaf and hearing perspectives within one Long Island family. Sound and Fury addressed the issue of whether or not the implant was good for deaf people or not. Each family had their own point of view. As the hearing family sided with the implant the deaf family pushed more for deaf culture and no implant. Mr. Artenian was strictly all about not getting the implant because he thought that there is nothing wrong with being deaf, that he actually likes being deaf. While on the other side his sister was all about getting the implant for her little child so that he does have a chance to grow up hearing. Before I watched this film my knowledge of the cochlear implants was very limited. I was always exposed to the hearing aid as my uncle has. I feel that the implant should not be used personally. There is so much going on in the Deaf culture that there is
