Kyle Reed September 16, 2006 Emergence of Life in the Universe Response Paper #4 1.) The first definition I found for the word evolution came from http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=evolution , it stated that evolution was a process of gradual, peaceful, progressive change or development, as in social or economic structure or institutions. Another definition of evolution, which pertains more to the biological aspect, was also on http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=evolution , it stated that evolution was a change in the gene pool of a population from generation to generation by such processes as mutation, natural selection, and genetic drift. 2.) Ernst Mayr asserts that the five components to Darwin’s theory of evolution are evolution as such, common descent, multiplication of species, gradualism, and natural selection. The first theory states that the world is not constant nor recently created nor perpetually cycling, but rather is steadily changing and that organisms are transformed in time.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
