Unformatted text preview: Results and Discussion The purpose of this experiment was to determine the effect of cross-linkage on polymer solution viscosity. Borate ion is used to cross-link strands of polymer poly (vinyl alcohol). Cross-linking of the PVA chains was anticipated due to the establishment of hydrogen bonds between strands of polymer after adding borate ions The viscosity of the solution was measured in between modify in cross-linking through the use of the marble-drop method as well as qualitative observations. This measurement use cm/sec (the distance traveled by the marble with solution / by the number of seconds taken for marble to reach the bottom of the solution). Through out the experiment there The viscosity was measured using the marble-drop method twice during the experiment: before the addition of borax to the PVA solution and after the addition of 3.0 M H 2 SO 4 .
