Anthropology 201 1/11/08 Anthro is the study of human beings. What makes anthropology different is the way that we study human beings. We study human beings in all times, not just present day societies, but past societies as well. We also study human beings in all different places. All human beings in all times and all places. Our goal of studying human beings in all times and all places is to get at the essence of human beings. How did we have different way sof being humans, and despite the differences what links us together as humans? This study seeks to discover the uniqueness of humanity, what makes us who we are? How did we come to be who we are and what are we? In order to understand us as human beings, ahtro approaches th study of humans in a different way. The kinds of features of human beings makes our study approach different. These unique features that make difference of other social sciences. One of the special features of anthro of our approach is our method of data collection. In other social sciences, psychology, etc. might use focus groups. Anthropology studies use participant observation. In order to understand human behavior par obs says you have to obs normal ppl doing normal things. Seems obvious but its diff than focus groups. It’s sometimes challenging, but notice that observation is only part of participant observation, because not only do you observe, but you participate also in those daily activities. As anthropologist study human beings, they observe normal ppl doing normal things, and participate daily in those lives. This is the primary method of data collection.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
