Danielle Zubek Sister Dorothy Catholic Vision March 27, 2006 A Nearness in Difference Jewish – Catholic Dialogue Since Vatican II Throughout the years of the Catholic Church and the Jewish community they have not seen each other eye to eye. The author recalls a time of Catholic hostility and intransigence to the Jews. At one point there was fear that built up over the centuries to convert and persecute Jews. The author attended a formal Jewish – Catholic colloquy in the United States that left to lasting experiences not only in his mind but in his heart and spiritually. First, Catholics spoke to the Jews and listened to what they had to say with the utmost respect. Second, was going to mass together as two different faiths and being able to sit next to each other and prays and worship. “It was and extraordinary and glorious experience to sit in the nave as monks and postulants filled that great space with their beautiful chants,” said Borowitz. He was touched when he knew that he was praying, in different religions
