Nick Buttler August 20, 2007 State two laws and theories, indicate where you found them, and indicate what concepts/observations they refer to. Law of Conservation of Matter (I-15) = No detectable change occurs in the total quantity of matter during a chemical reaction or physical change. (refers to physical and chemical changes) Law of Conservation of Energy (I-15) = Energy cannot be created or destroyed in a chemical reaction or in a physical change; it may be changed from one form to another. (refers to physical and chemical changes) Dalton’s Atomic Theory (6) = An element is composed of extremely small, invisible particles called atoms. All atoms of a given element have identical properties that differ from those of other elements. Atoms cannot be created, destroyed, or transformed into atoms of another element. Compounds are formed when atoms of different elements combine with one another in small whole-number ratios. The relative numbers and kinds of atoms are constant in a given compound. (refers to how atoms work)
