Reflection Topic: College SuccessWrite about what college success means to you. How will you define success, and whatstrategies will you use to achieve success? Be sure to be specific.College success means achieving goals to obtain a degree successfully. Being in college ischallenging for me as I haven’t been to a university before I enrolled at UOPeople. My prioritiesback then were to work, earn money and help my parents. But as time goes by, the populationgrows all over the world, and degree holders increase as well.As a non-degree holder, these causeme to lose my job and be the least priority when it comes to applying for a new job. I started tolook for an affordable university but everything’s expensive. I was almost losing my hope when Isaw an advertisement about UOPeople. I immediately filled out the forms needed hoping to beaccepted. Luckily, I was given the chance to study, and this was the first achievement I have toreach my goal to succeed.Studying and working at the same time isn’t my thing and I’ve been having a hard time since thebeginning of the first term. I’ve thought about focusing only on my studies but I don’t have theguts to leave my old parents unsupported even if they don’t oblige me. I also don’t want to losethe opportunity given by the UOPeople to me to study and obtain a degree so, I decided to facethe challenge and do both. So far, I am learning how to manage it. I’ve learned how to be patient inreading the long Learning Guides to understand the lesson. I reread them when I still have doubtsabout the topic and do some research as well. I always read aloud because it helps me learn thriceat the same time. It also helps me improve my reading, speaking, pronunciation, and listeningskills. These strategies helped me a lot to finish my English Composition Course with an average of89.02. I had hardships because I’m a non-native English speaker but passing the first term markedmy second achievement to obtain a degree and be successful.Being in college and finishing it isn’t easy but I am doing my best on it. I promise myself to be morefocused and if ever I get really tired, I will just rest but I will never stop reaching for the collegesuccess that I am aiming for.“And at the end of every day, their hands stained orange from the lard and the cheap meat, theirknuckles red and tender where the hot water and the knife blade had worked their business,Máximo and Rosa would sit down to whatever remained of the day's cooking and they would chewslowly, the day unraveling, their hunger ebbing away with the light” (Menéndez, 2001, para. 25).This story inspires me a lot because the main character and his wife in this story worked hard fortheir goals and their daughters’ future. Máximo and Rosa were so focused that whatever hardshipsthey encounter, they didn’t give up and they were determined to keep moving forward.
