Nick Buttler LU 1103-29 Lipscomb Seminar: Houston, We Have a Problem Dr. Gwinn How Life on Other Planets Would Affect My Religious Beliefs “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Almost every Christian, Jew, and Muslim knows this verse in the Bible. For some reason, the rest of Genesis 1 talks mostly about His creation of the earth and not so much the heavens. The rest of the Bible talks about what happened on Earth. This is why I never have established a large connection between my faith and space. However, I have wondered if and when God created all of the other planets. Does “the heavens” mean outer space or heaven itself? Genesis 1 does mention the creation of the sun, moon, and stars. Maybe that is when He created the planets. He created the sun, moon, and stars to give off light. The planets also give off light because of the sun’s reflection, so maybe He created the planets for that reason. Have you ever thought, though, that He created the other planets for the exact same
