Diagnosis and Treatment 2 Mood disorders can start at any age but a study has been done and the average age that mood disorders come is around the age of 25. Almost one in every 10 people over the age of 18 has some type of mood disorder. Mood disorders have a wide variety of problems such as bipolar disorder and depression. These disorders are affective disorders. Approximately 20% of the United States has some type of mood disorder. Now most people have some type of feeling such as irritability or sadness in their life. But having a mood disorder is entirely different and can affect a person’s emotional state. What causes these types of mood disorders is not quite known. There are chemicals called endorphins in the brain; these endorphins are in charge for a person’s positive moods and behavior. The other chemical is called neurotransmitters these are in charge of keeping the endorphins regulated. It is more than likely that when there is a chemical imbalance with in the brain the chemicals can lead to depression and other mood disorders. Also major life changes
