Sunni Countries- Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia Shia Countries- Iraq(except for the Sunni Triangle) and Iran Sharia- is traditional Islamic law. Like most religious cultures, Islam classically drew no distinction between religious and secular life. Linear with a purpose Postmodernism -Postmodernism is a complicated term, or set of ideas, one that has only emerged as an area of academic study since the mid-1980s -Postmodernism is hard to define, because it is a concept that appears in a wide variety of disciplines or areas of study, including art, architecture, music, film, literature, sociology, communications, fashion, and technology -It is hard to locate it temporally or historically, because it’s not clear exactly when postmodernism begins - Pre-Modern Era - the historical period prior to the modern area. The individual is dominated by tradition and authority - Modern Era - the period from the early 18 th Century to the mid 20 th Century. The enlightenment-humanist rejection of tradition and authority in favor of reason and natural science - Post-Modernism Era - the 1960’s to the present. Eclectic movement, originating in aesthetics- architecture and philosophy. Post modernism espouses a systematic skepticism of grounded theoretical perspective -Postmodernism does not deal with the question of what is real? Rather it focuses on how language is used to construct meaning itself The Death of Truth -Predmodern- a revealed metanarrative to determine faith -Modern- human reason determines truth -Postmodern- truth is created as we construct languages that serve our purpose The Death of Self -Postmodernism asserts that as individuals we are only the sum of what we describe ourselves to be -Good is whatever those in society who wield power choose to make it Jean-Francois Lyotard
