The FAA or Federal Aviation Administration was founded in 1958 and it is accountable for the
safety in aviation. On the other hand, the ICAO or International Civil Aviation Organization was
created by the United Nation with the goal in mind that it would achieve safe and workable
environments in civil aviation and for its members. The ICAO serves as the global forum for the
civil aviation internationally.
The similarities between the FAA and the ICAO are enforcing standards, policies, regulations,
and procedures within aviation to ensure the safety of everyone. Even though there are some
similarities with the goals of the two organizations, both operate in different ways. The FAA is a
regulatory expert of the United States of America, and they oversee the different aspects in
aviation all throughout North America. So, with that being said, the FAA implements rules in all
aspects of aviation such as maintenance and setting a standard and requirements for both pilots
and aircrafts. The ICAO’s goal is to implement standards, safety, and efficiency in civil aviation
internationally.
