As I walked into the theater, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the set onstage. It was extravagant, to say the least. It being a smaller theater, I wasn’t expecting what I saw. The seats I had reserved happened to be the best seats in the house! My cousin and I were smack dab in the center, from every direction. I noticed that most of the audience was made up of little kids, which made me feel slightly out of place. As soon as I took my seat at H117, I drove right into the program, which I always do before performances. I took a look at the cast and their bios. I noticed that the adults in the show would be playing multiple roles, which worried me a little as far as believability. Most of the roles were being played by young children, even as young as five years old! I was anxious to see how they would handle pressure in front of an audience. The program stated that the boy playing Charlie Bucket was from New York and had some acting experience in different productions. I planned on paying close attention to his abilities as an actor, seeing that he was from New York, the theater capitol of the US. Before I could read anything else, the lights began to dim at 7:05pm…. In general, I did not enjoy this play. The only aspect of the play I enjoyed was the set and costumes. The performance was only an hour and a half long, but it felt like it was so much longer. First of all, the writing was terrible in my opinion. I believe this adaptation of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” was specifically written for children because the writing was so simple. I have also seen the movie “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” which influenced my opinion of the show. I thought the movie
