Casey McConnell Date of Speech: 11/9 Formal Outline Persuasive Speech Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to consider capital punishment inhumane, and morally wrong. Attention I. Open with Impact: Four years ago Scott Allen Hain, a mentally retarded man, was executed for a crime he committed at 17. II. Focus on thesis statement: Allowing capital punishment to continue in this world, and in our own home country is ethically wrong. III. Connect with audience: Our very own Florida beats out Texas in having the second highest number of inmates waiting for their punishment on death row. IV. Preview: A. (Need) Thousands die a cruel, inhumane death at the hands of their fellow man. B. (Satisfaction) These laws permitting death as an answer to society’s problems must be abolished. C. (Visualization) The United States could join their allies in the EU, where capital punishment is not permitted by member nations. Need I.
