Michael LuffComm- 102Professor MillerOctober 29, 2021INSIDE OUT1.)I do think the depiction of joy and sadness being intertwined is exceptionally accurate. However, I do not know if I agree with the order in which they are depicted. First, because allbabies come out crying, it is unlikely that Riley or any human baby's first emotion is joy. Ibelieve it is, in fact, sadness that we as humans feel first, followed by joy or happiness. Moodand emotion, like almost every aspect of life, exist within the realm of relativity. Joy and sadnessare relative to each other, and you could not have one without the other. How could one evenknow they were happy unless they had once experienced unhappiness. This concept isdemonstrated in the movie when Joy finds the memory of the hockey game. Because Riley feltsad about missing the shot, she sulked. That sadness is what opened the door for her parents tocomfort and console her, leading to happiness so intense it developed into a lasting memory. Asjoy rewinds the memory, she sees that it was initially a sad memory that turned into a joyful one.Happiness and joy are two sides of the same coin and, In my opinion, inseparable.2.)As discussed in answer to the previous question, I believe all emotions to be relative andperspective. Therefore, labeling any of the emotions as hero or villain in the film would beinaccurate If we use the word villain to mean a person intending to do harm or do harm. If weuse the definition of person or thing responsible for the trouble, harm, or damage, my answerwould be Joy. Although not intentional, Joy is the emotion that was responsible for almost everynegative event. All emotions are necessary, and as humans, we must be allowed to feel and
