ANT 307 Class Notes March 6 th  2008 Surveys Three varieties: 1. Face-to-face interviews a. Can be used with people who cannot read or see b. Offers an explanation of questions c. Use visual aids, graphs, cue cards d. Can take longer than telephone or self-administered e. You know who answers the question f. Disadvantages: takes skill and practice to administer questionnaire  without subtly curing respondent to expected/desired answer. Also  takes more time 2. Self-administered questionnaires a. All respondents answer the same question with the same wording b. You can ask long batteries of otherwise boring questions that you  couldn’t get away with in face-to-face (personal info) c. Disadvantages: no control how people interpret questions. In come  cases you may want to not reveal the next question, but they can  just turn the page Less control over respondent completing entire
