Friday November 16 2007 • The Erechtheum is an ancient temple was got its name from the shrine dedicated to the Greek hero Erichthonius. -- The temple itself was dedicated to Athena and Poseidon Erechtheus. The sacred snake of the temple lived there, which represented the spirit of Cecrops, for safety in the city. • Pandrosos was the daughter of Cecrops. • Hephaestus tried to rape Athena but was unsuccessful and his sperm fell on the ground and from it was born Erichthonius. • Eumolpus was the son of Poseidon and Chione. He was a musician and singer. -- During a war between Athens and Eleusis, Eumolpus sided with Eleusis. -- Eleusis lost the battle but the Eleusinian mysteries continued by other families. • Aegeus was the father of Theseus and brother of Pallas. -- Androgeus beat him in every contest of the Panathenaic Games. -- Aegeus sent him to fight the Marathonian Bull and was killed and out of anger, King Minos declared war on Athens.
