Friday October 12 th , 2007 Oedipus Rex written by Sophocles. -- son of Queen Jocasta and King Laius. Laius learned by oracle that he would die by the hand of his son. Jocasta ordered that the baby be left to die. -- a shepherd found him and raised him as his own. -- Oedipus left Corinth and killed his real father, Laius, on the road. By answering the Sphinx’s riddle correctly and freeing Thebes from the Sphinx, he married Jocasta, his own mother.
