Results
The results of germination of the Lactuca serriola seeds were compiled from thirteen different
students and compiled into 13 replicates. A one-way ANOVA test was conducted on the data
with a sample size of 65. Figure 1 shows the means for each treatment as: full light 18.6154, no
light 3.1538, red light 18.6923, green light 5.1538, and blue light 0. The means display the
average number of seeds that germinated under each light treatment across the sample
population. Figure 1 also reports the standard errors for each treatment as: full light 0.5722, no
light 0.8832, red light 0.4855, green light 0.8686, and blue light 0.
The statistical test also generated Tukey HSD comparisons between the independent samples
of light treatment. It was found that there were statistical differences in the sample means at
the 1% level between full light treatments when compared with no light, green light, and blue
light. There were no significant differences in the sample means of full light and red light, nor
were there differences between no light and green light sample means. Blue light treatment
sample means were statistically different than all other light treatment sample means.
