Ty Nguyen Lab Performed: 121/14 Chem 2203-002 Report Due: 12/8/14 TA: Rich Brzozowski Experiment 15: Diels-Alder Reaction: 9,10- Dihydroanthracene-9,10- α , β -succinic Acid Anhydride Objective: T his experiment is to form 9,10-dihydroanthracene-9,10- α , β -succinic anhydride by  way of a Diels Alder reaction between anthracene and maleic anhydride. An aromatic ring  system is the diene substrate. Anthracene acts as the diene and maleic anhydride functions as  the dienophile. Xylene is used as a high boiling temperature solvent so that the reaction will  proceed quickly. Experimental Procedure: Experiment 15: Diels-Alder Reaction: 9,10- Dihydroanthracene-9,10- α , β -succinic Acid Anhydride, pages 271-273, with the modifications that was listed in the Blackboard document.
