The Outcry for Nuclear Power: Can its Effects Mitigate Global Warming? Analysis of the possibility of extreme weather illustrated by our recent reading assignment may signal cause for worldwide alarm if the claims in fact turn out to be true in the not-so-distant future. According to the article 1 , the world is overdue for a global heating crisis, in which some regions weather would vary so radically that it would actually cause famine, reduce meat and livestock production, and perhaps cause skirmishes or wars between neighboring countries fighting to stave off starvation. One of the main causes for the proposed battles over natural resources would be the result of international “finger-pointing”, as some of the larger countries such as the U.S. have both a large carrying capacity for population as well as output many times more carbon dioxide than other nations. The combination of the natural resource advantage coupled with the above average use of carbon-producing industry would be a force multiplier, resulting in a great distaste and jealousy from other countries throughout the world.
