Michael Slagh PLS200 Study Questions l.1-3 1.) Politics are an allocation of value, done in an authoritative way. Politics deal with government, political affairs and business. It is the total complex of relations between people living in society; the focus is on the individual. 2.) Three assumptions implicit in cause and effect are 1. The world is generally orderly, 2. All natural phenomena have natural causes, and 3. We are able to discern the causes; we can figure things out and the world is not random. 3.) Ockham’s razor is the idea that we always try the simplest explanation first, or “keep it simple”. 4.) The tragedy of the commons is the idea that there are common resources available (the commons) and we as individuals—acting alone—do not see the big picture, but yet degrade the commons without any intention of doing so in the first place. We are not acted upon by outside forces, but there is still long-term harm occurring. 5.)
