Course Project: Amtrak Portfolio Management Plan Introduction Amtrak established the nation’s first high- speed rail passage in the Northeast, Amtrak now transports more passengers among Washington, D.C., New York and Boston than the entire airline business combined. Amtrak is America’s direct passenger rail service provider, operating a nationwide system that connects more than 500 destinations in 46 states and three Canadian provinces[Amt16]. This paper will discuss Amtrak’s Portfolio Management Plan and the organizations focus and strategy on achieving established goals. Amtrak is focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement moving forward as the industries leader in passenger high-speed trains. The paper PMP will discuss the organization's strategic plan, organization's strategic capacity plan, portfolio management process, project selection criteria, program management plan, plan to identify and resolve possible areas/sources of conflict related to cost, schedule, or quality. Change management plan, a plan to 1. Manage organizational and cultural change and conflict that may occur due to project/program/portfolio implementation; and 2. To control changes within your portfolio, program, and projects. Finally the resource utilization plan will analyze and plan resource utilization to achieve maximum/optimal capacity utilization.
