While it is never explicitly made clear what Tim OBrien wants you to believe when he uses the word t rue and variations of it in his story How To Tell a True War Story, there are many assumptions to be made about him and his vision on the word true. While most of the truths Tim OBrien mentions are important, there are some that stand out and make the story easier to understand. Tim OBrien states many times on how true war stories are told. For example, he says A t rue war story is never moral. That particular t ruth does not impact me as a line such as In many cases a t rue war story cannot be believed. The reason for that being is the line A t rue war story is never moral does not strike me as believable. While I personally have never been in a war, I have read about them through credible sources, and some stories are moral. Although in the line In many cases a t rue war story cannot be believed is more believable, because first of all Tim OBrien clearly states In many cases he does not say all the time or simply states it as fact. He is stating that sometimes a t rue war story cannot be believed which makes his statement more credible.
