1: What is JavaScript? 01/11/2016 ° JavaScript isn’t Java, that was simply a naming coincidence ° ° JS is not a compiled language useful for simulating & creating interactivity on the World Wide Web makes web apps more responsive ° ° Important to test in a variety of browsers and platforms to ensure your code works with ECMA standards ° ° Every JavaScript program consists of statements and expressions formed from tokens of various types, i.e. keywords, literals, separators, and operators & identifiers places together in a way that means something to the JavaScript interpreter (found in most web browsers) ° ° JavaScript is event-driven which means it can respond to things like a mouse click or text change in a form field ° ° HTML need-to-know info: delineates elements in a webpage using matching tags inside brackets < > JavaScript fits inside <SCRIPT> tags inside <HEAD> </HEAD> or <BODY> </BODY> o if it’s inside body tags, JS executes as encountered by browser
