Purpose: The purpose of this experiment was to see how dyes are composed chemically. We also did this lab to understand chromatography. Chromatography is the most powerful analytic technique that we will learn this whole semester so this was very important. Another purpose was to separate the inks and dyes from M&M’s and compare them to the dyes in food colorings. Procedure: Procedure: We followed the procedure exactly as it was stated in the lab manual and no changes were made to it. Dillon, Stephanie. “Paper Chromatography.” CHM1045L Online Manual . The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
