Purpose: The purpose of this experiment was to become more familiar with lewis structures. This lab also helped us to recognize the polarity and resonance in each molecule. In this lab we learned how to take a 3-D structure and convert it to a lewis structure. In this lab we also learned how to use a protractor to measure the angles between the bonds. Procedure: We followed the lab manual exactly as it was stated. No variations were made to the procedure. Dillon, Stephanie. “Molecular Structure Lab.” CHM1045L Online Manual . Fall 2006. 10 October 2007. www.chem.fsu.edu/chemlab/~dillon1045l1383.88.html Calculations: To find the bond angles use a protractor. To find oxidation numbers for O it is usually -2 and H is +1 so from that you can calculate the others. For example in XeOF4, O is -2 and F is -1 so when you add up -1, - 1, -1, -1, and -2 you get -6. Since there is no charge on the molecule you can determine that
