KNOWLEDGE ACQUISITION AND MEMORY DEVELOPMENT2Knowledge Acquisition and Memory DevelopmentOur brains begin to develop from the time we are fetuses, born, and throughout our livesuntil we pass away. The brain is a vital organ in the human body by playing critical roles. Ourbrains also affect and control how we interact with the surroundings, sense pathways, andexperiences. The brain is also influenced by the things we encounter in our lives. Braindevelopment is also affected by one's genetic compositions. Therefore, our minds combine all theinformation gathered from infancy until adulthood, which, in one way or another, defines ourcharacter, behavior, and perspectives. It is essential to ensure that children are introduced toactivities that improve brain development, such as constant communication, sole and groupplays, learning, and physical and emotional support. Human brains cultivate information, concepts, knowledge, and ideas. The connection between how a person develops memory andacquires knowledge allows us to comprehend how effective an individual can process and retainwhat he/she has been taught or learned. Thus, there is a difference between learning and memoryin that memory virtually affects learning information.Definition of Memory DevelopmentBauer and Pathman (2008) suggest that memory development is a critical element thatdramatically affects a person's cognitive, social, and emotional functioning. There is asignificance in understanding that memory development is the process developed byacknowledging several factors that influence how humans can learn and retail info. Numeroustheories that explain more about short-term memory and long-term memory are divided intodeclarative and non-declarative systems. To create effective long-term memory, it is essential tolink memory development to knowledge acquisition. Rosser-Majors (2017) argues thatinformation processing affects a person's capacity to acquire fresh knowledge, connect it to
KNOWLEDGE ACQUISITION AND MEMORY DEVELOPMENT3previous information, accommodate the information in the memory, and then remember it laterwhen it is needed. Thus, memory development is a crucial element in learning new ideas. Theevidence to support this argument is the concept of using the information that we have learned.Hence, knowledge acquisition needs memory function to occur. The Significance of Moving Short-term Memory to Long-term MemoryThe human capability to move info from the short-term to the long-term memory is vital.
