CASE STUDY #3: SPECIES  DIVERSITY By 1992 determined that plots with 5 or fewer species recovered slowly High diversity plots reached or exceeded pre-drought levels of productivity Results dependable because plots were well replicated With hi diversity plots some plants harmed, some went dormant, others slowed growth rate

CASE STUDY #3: SPECIES  DIVERSITY Low diversity plots chances of having dormant or slow growing species is less likely resulting in slower recovery Results from this resulted in same type of experiments in other ecosystems Got same results although some low diversity areas showed stability, the ones that did were subject to frequent disturbances

CASE STUDY #3: SPECIES  DIVERSITY Implications: With variable weather over several years a diverse community will have a net energy yield greater then one that has low diversity If diversity is maintained nature is more resilient and recovers faster
