2Title: A Preliminary Examination of the Role of Inferiority Feelings in the AcademicAchievement of College StudentsAbstract: Strano & Petrocelli (2005) hypothesised that there would be an association ofmoderate feelings of inferiority with a higher academic achievement level. Thus, they wanted tocontribute to the knowledge to date corroborating the constructs fundamental individualapproach in psychology. It means that this study was conducted with the aim of constructinginferiority feelings and its actions and activities in academic performance.Introduction - Critique of Theory: This study is based on the most popularised Adlerianconcepts of Inferiority Feelings (Akdoğan, 2017). Adler, although he accepts that the basis ofpersonality is forged in the first 5 years of the person's life, he dismisses the importance given tothe libidinal impulse by orthodox psychoanalysis, giving great importance to the specificmotivations of the self, which are they would focus on the desire to excel as a product of thefeeling of inferiority that is a necessary effect of the type of relationships that the child has toestablish with society as a whole (Akdoğan, 2017). So, the real motor of personality, accordingto Adler, would be the ‘meand not the ‘id’ (Bajjah, 2015), which totally changes the perspectiveof analysis of the individual personality of that delivered by traditional psychoanalysis (Sharf,2011).According to Bernstein, faced with the traditional elementalist approach, Adler opposes thepsychic totality; to physiological explanations, Adler opposes genuinely psychologicalexplanations; where the instinct was spoken, Adler speaks of the individual (personal); where theconstitution or temperament is spoken, Adler says attitude, character, lifestyle; where he talksabout inheritance and innatism, Adler says training, experience, environment, education; wherehe talked about sex, Adler says personality; where he talked about causal determination, Adlersays final determination and in finally, where there was talk of determinism, Adler says freedom.
