Benjamin Fornecker Prof. Jackson Ethics in Business (Avant Déjeuner) Homework 2: February 1, 2008 The Corporation I liked this documentary because it took a look at the inside of how businesses are run and talked about how they have one purpose: to make as much money as possible. They started out as a group of individuals looking for long, growing, sustaining, legal returns for owners of the business, but have turned into money hungry people concerned only with making money for the stockholders. They put the financial interest of the owners ahead of the public good. Their loyalty to owners will trump public well-being. Pressure started to mount on the corporations to get results immediately, no matter what. Because of this, sweatshops were formed and an example was shown of a $178 jacket that cost the company a mere 74 cents to make. That is about 24,000% return on the jacket! Nike was shown to pay just 3/10 of a percent to their workers in Indonesian factories where their sweatshops exist and where their CEO has claimed
