Estates General – 1789 – France – called by King of France to discuss financial crisis of France. It provoked the French Revolution. (The trigger of the French Revolution). Tennis Court Oath – 1789 – they will remain in session until they reach Robespierre – principle figure of the radical revolution – advocated terror in pursuit of solidifying the republic – responsible for the execution of 10,000+ - he was executed (head chopped off). Napoleon – General for the French republic – made himself dictator and then emperor – conquered parts of Europe with France – Hapsburg Empire – 1300s-1918 – unites Austria, Czech, Hungary and other smaller territories – one of the major powers – Franz Ferdinand (head of Empire) is assassinated starting WWI (direct connection to WWI). Operation Barbarossa – June 1941 – Russia – Nazis invade Russia in WWII – massive military operation – had criminal planning for massacres – turning point of WWII b/c Germany would never beat Soviet Union – led to beginning of the Holocaust.
