Mid-term Examination This exam is designed to last the full hour and fifteen minutes of the period, so expect to write that long if  you wish to do well. DO NOT leave before the period is over; it is too distracting to others. You may write  on this exam sheet, but please turn it in separate from your exam at the end of the period. The exam should  be folded lengthwise, with your name, course and section number, and the date on the outside. Please  number your pages with your last name and page number at the top right, a la MLA format. Don’t worry  about neatness or style. Just make it legible. Good luck!  Please double-space, and use only one side of the page! Define four of the following, using diagrams if needed (5 points each): Metaphor   Trope   Meter    Trochee   Iamb   Foot  Rhetoric Answer two of the three, in a paragraph (10 points each): 1.) Identify the text and the author of the following passage, and discuss the metaphorical significance of  the  following: We arrived at Baltimore early on Sunday morning, landing at Smith’s Wharf, not far from Bowley’s  Wharf.  We had on board the sloop a large flock of sheep; and after aiding in driving them to the  slaughterhouse of Mr. Curtis on Louden Slater’s Hill, I was conducted by Rich, one of the hands belonging  in board of the sloop, to my new home in Alliciana Street, near Mr. Gardner’s ship-yard, on Fells Point  (2013). 2.) Identify the text and the author of the following passage, and also identify the source of the allusion as  thoroughly as you can, quoting from the original if possible.  Each cocked his pistol, and, with fingers on the trigger, walked up to Henry, saying, at the same time,  if he did not cross his hands, they would blow his damned heart out. "Shoot me, shoot me!" said Henry; "you
