Running head ; Dilemmas Presented by Volkswagen’s Emissions Scandal and Ikea “tip-over” 2 Abstract The major goal of this paper is to articulate the ethical dilemmas presented by Volkswagen's emissions scandal and Ikea "tip-over furniture hazard". For those interested the subject ethics, Volkswagens scandal carries the day. The company's emissions case has brought business ethics to the forefront of the global news agenda and into public consciousness. In this scandal approximately 11 million customers worldwide were victims (Reka, S. Law in the Press). The two companies have been accused of being unethical with the delivery of their products without considering the side effects of their emissions to the immediate environment. In all auto motives scandals, the case of Volkswagen is the biggest when compared to any other cases that have surfaced in this industry. Volkswagen Company was caught in a massive scandal of cheating on emissions testing (Reka, S. Law in the Press). The Volkswagen's crisis is due to a three-pronged governance and culture failure in marketing, risk management, and internal controls. At the first half of the year, 2015 Volkswagen Company was rated number one worldwide car producer ahead of the former market giants Toyota. However in a period of three, the US-American Environmental protection agency accused the company of cheating emissions tests in the US. It was found that most of the Volkswagen cars had "defeat software" installed in the diesel engines that could tell what the car was being tested for (Cue, A.). The device which had been installed in this cars caused the vehicles' nitrogen oxide output to meet the needed standards during testing.

As much this false premise sold by company benefitted the senior executives in charge at Volkswagen it led to the downfall of the company. The environmental protection findings surveyed 482 cars in the United States only. The Volkswagen Company agreed that since the beginning almost eleven million cars sold worldwide, including those sold to Europe had been fitted with the defeat software. On the other hand IKEA furniture is known for being difficult to assemble ,but currently, it has come to the minds of people that IKEA furniture has also proven hazardous and deadly especially to young kids in the families . So far three children have been crushed by the chest dressers the reason being that they are less stable more so being not attached to walls and they can tip-over thus causing a threat to lives of children since the hazard could cause injuries or death to them.
