Ilya Miller Honors Statistics Case Studies Chance in HIV research This case deals with the disease known as HIV or AIDS. Although there is no concrete character telling a story, the case gives an overall explanation of how statistics is used in HIV research. The statisticians describe different methods used to determine which group of people is most affected by this condition. In addition, statisticians develop correlations between medications and the disease. Through doing this, they are able to see which methods of treatment are most effective. A young men’s survey or YMS was the primary source of finding high prevalence of HIV in young homosexual men, most specifically men of color. With this understanding, agencies such as the CDC put more emphasis and focus on educating these people. The YMS used a type of sampling known as venue-based or space- time sampling. This is a sampling method where a researcher or statisticians focuses the majority of their studies on locations where they are most likely to be found. In this case
