Expository Writing Patrick Moran 4-23-06 Annotated Bibliography 1. Coogan, Michael D. (Ed.). (2001) The New Oxford Annotated Bible (3 rd Edition) New York: Oxford U Press. The Bible is the most rational place to start in study of moral questions in Western Civilization. As a Primary source for the foundations of modern democratic social and political thought it is unrivaled. Quotes from the four gospels and the Apocrypha of the New Testament supported by excerpts from traditional Jewish law in the Pentateuch serve as the base for my moral argument against capital punishment. 2. Morgan Michael L. (Ed.). (1996) Plato. Crito and The Republic in Classics of Moral and Political Theory. (2 nd Edition) Indianapolis: Hackett Pub. Also a Primary source for our modern democratic system is the philosophy of reason adopted by Socrates and his student Plato. Building on the spiritual and religious foundation laid through The Bible is the practical reason found in the discussion of a perfect society in the Republic as well as Socrates’ own musings on death and punishment in Crito.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
