MADD Case Study 2MADD Case StudyMothers Against Drunk Driving was incorporated to bring awareness to the public of the dangers of drunk driving and what the affects of driving drunk can cause and the families it has harmed. Their main goal is to put an end to and decrease the fatalities associated with drunk driving. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) identified many problems with driving drunk, and has since made a huge impact on the world to decrease these fatalities by creating awareness, and creating social policies towards drunk driving. Implementing such policies had some problems but there were many policies that were created that really did make a huge difference in the overall reduction of fatalities, accidents, and drunk driving that is taking place today. MADD continues to create social policies while growing and bringing a positive affect to the cause; human services also are affected by some of these policies and how Human Services is helping today. Key Issues IdentifiedMothers Against Drunk Driving recognized a huge problem, with mass amounts of people having fatal car accidents due to driving under the influence. This has been a problem since the beginning of the twentieth century. Before MADD accidents caused by driving under the influence were presumed to be because of operator error and not much along the way of consequences were done to those who caused the accident. It was not until the late 60’s and 70’s that driving under the influence was considered a crime and it was not until the report on Alcoholand Highway safety came out and said that these accidents were the cause of “problem drinkers” (Phillips, Melody, Goldbas, 2013). This was the beginning of social policies that made for mandatory public education, sobriety checks, and ways to catch these drunk drivers (Phillips, Melody, Goldbas, 2013). It was not until 1980 and a woman’s young daughter was struck and killed by a hit and run drunk driver that MADD was created.
