For Firm X, what are some potential consequences of notlearning this skill?Skill 1:Customer Service: This skill is important when working in retail because when you have greatcustomer service skills you will more than likely make the customer come back for their next shoppingexperience and will help retain that customer as well. This skill will address professionalism,communication skills, and patience to name a few. The potential consequences of not learning thisskill for Firm X are not keeping up with increasing online shopping. As stated in one of the articles, “AsMillennial and Generation Z consumers shop online in increasing numbers, retailers need to improvetheir customer service not just in physical stores, but also over the phone and Internet.” (Greenberg,2017) This is the shoppers targeted age that Firm X is focused on.Skill 2:Teamwork: When employees are professional, responsible, and communicative they create anenvironment that feels welcoming to the customers. Customers will see employees as a family workingtogether to bring the best shopping experience. This skill will address collaboration, respect, andhonesty. These are “skills tied to a worker's role at the store as well as core retail skills and "soft"skills”(Walmart Academy Pays Off for Employees, Customers, 2017).Skill 3:Leadership: I think it is important that we have a team leader who provides motivation and guidanceto the rest of the employees. I believe there are people who enjoy managing and leading people.Focusing on this skill is important because even though it is your (supervisor) job to see what skillsemployees need to acquire, we need a leader to make sure those skills are being developed in theworkplace. If we don't focus on this skill we will not see development in the teams' strengths andimprove on weaknesses.
Skill 4:Technology: With the recent in online shopping, I think this is an important skill for our employees.Employees will be able to help customers by checking inventory faster, answering questions quicklywith online access, and managing order tracking or pricing. Not addressing this skill can potentiallylead to loss of money. With more people shopping online, we need to be aware that “retail ischanging, and retailers need to provide associates with more tools to keep up with the times.”(Walmart Academy Pays Off for Employees, Customers, 2017)Skill 5:Retail math: Retail math is important because it is used in many ways by retail buyers and employees.
