Armaan Grewal05/20/22Assignment 6.4: A Closer Look at Writing StyleThere are many literary devices in Chapter 3 of John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wraththat seem to paint the story more vividly. Several aspects of the chapter, specifically a turtlecrossing a highway, can be interpreted as symbolic of the Joad family's struggle, as well asmigrant families worldwide. On its journey, the turtle is hit by a truck and spins "like a coin,"before lying down and waving its legs in the air, "reaching for something to pull it over." Despiteencountering numerous hostile creatures, the turtle gradually regains movement and continuesto move around. This represents migrants who face many difficulties on their journey but learnto overcome them and keep moving forward. This chapter also employs an extended metaphor.
