Leonard 1 Lauren Leonard Arts First (Mod 2) 4 December 2007 Research a work that carries particular meaning to you, which was presented at one of the group or module events. Gather biographical information about the artist/composer/performer. Discuss the work’s qualities in relation to its historical context. What is its cultural significance in contemporary times? I recently attended an event at Phipps Conservatory. When I was there it made me think of two of the art modules that I took; the one taught by Dan Franke and the one taught by Lauren Adams. These two modules were about the art of carpentry and the art of photography. In Dan Franke’s class we were asked, as a group, to come up with a concept to put in the quad by the amphitheatre. In Lauren Adam’s class we were asked to take self-portraits that we believed defined who we are in one aspect or another. I thought that both of these projects were interesting and they both taught me things that I have never really thought about learning. This Arts First class made me want to explore more about art. That is when I went to Phipps Conservatory to see Chihuly at Phipps: Gardens and Glass. Dale Chihuly was born in Tacoma, Washington in 1941.
