Evan Lema Fred Marchant Selections from House of War From chapter three “The Cold War Begins” I selected a paragraph from page 138. I Chose this paragraph because I feel it defines the generation during the cold war, and even translated into American today. Both the government and the people became very suspicious of those around them, paranoid about Russian spies, or the spread of communism in the US. After the Truman Doctrine, America began viewing nations as being with them or against them with no middle ground. Today with all the wars and terrorism, especially after September 11 th , the government has gone overboard with national security, and for awhile anyone who was not for the government’s actions was deemed unpatriotic. This paranoia and fear was and is the motivation and reasoning for all the irrational things people do during war. From Chapter four “Self-fulfilling Paranoia” I selected a paragraph from page 174 about Harry Truman and his Z Committee. I chose this paragraph because it illustrates
