Public Order and Morals Offenses April 1st Terminology Ÿ Victimless crimes - Drug abuse, gambling Ÿ Consensual Crimes - They consent to drug use, consent to buying a prostitute - Doing so on their own free will Ÿ Public Order and Moral Offenses - Public Order: crimes that irritate us - Morals: crimes that offend us Types of Public Order Crimes Ÿ Traffic Offenses -Speeding, parking where you’re not supposed to, tailgating Ÿ Vagrancy/Homelessness Ÿ Disturbing the Peace Ÿ Public Drunkenness Types of Morals Offenses Ÿ Prostitution Ÿ Illegal Gambling - Gambling that falls outside the conditions - Way of providing services to people who can’t go to casinos Ÿ Drug Crimes - People who engage in the use, manufacture or the sale of drugs Responding to Drug Crimes Ÿ The War on Drugs -Started in early 1980s with Ronald Reagan’s Administration Ÿ Enforcement and Interdiction - Whenever you see someone who violates these laws you punish them.
